感情とストレス

についてお話します。

まず前回の終わりに

感情とはいったいどこから来ると思いますか？

という質問があったと思います。

感情を引き起こし影響を与えているのは、脳の原始的中枢の、とある部分です。そこは言語を使うことでもっと高等な脳中枢部の影響を受け、支配されています。

私たち人間の感情と行動は、思考と起こった出来事をどのように受け取り、評価するかの影響によって生まれていると考えられています。

よく言われる「お父さんに似て短気だよね」という遺伝的要因は、その人の性格傾向に多少の影響を与えますが、実際はほんのわずかです。『ウチの家系はみんな爪の形が丸い』とはまったく違うのです。

次に感情がストレスを生み、健康に及ぼす影響についてお話します。

誰にでもあるストレスですが、同じ事が起こってもある人にはストレス、他の人にはストレスにならないことがあります。

なぜそのようなことが起こるのでしょうか？

それは不快な出来事をその人自身がどう解釈、評価するのかによって心が動揺するかどうか、またその動揺の振れ幅で決まるからです。ストレスの原因となる不快な感情を例にとり意識的、無意識的両面から、身体にはどのような症状が表れるのかを考えてみましょう。

無意識に筋肉が緊張し強張ることから、肩凝りや頭痛が引き起こされ、偏頭痛の原因にもなります。不快感情である怒りや恐怖は、血圧の上昇と同時に血栓を増加させる物質が分泌され血栓ができやすくなります。慢性的な情緒不安定は免疫力を弱めてしまい、風邪をはじめさまざまな感染症を引き起こしやすくなり、湿疹や脱毛も現れることがあります。円形脱毛症はよく耳にすると思います。

ストレス性胃炎があるように、継続した悩みや苦しみを抱え続けることで、胃が刺激され胃酸過多となり胸焼けや胃炎、嘔吐や下痢といった胃腸に症状が現れます。

ストレスは完全になくすことはできませんし、完全になくすことが必ずしも善とは言えません。ただ、気持ちを落ち込ませ、荒ませるストレスは生活の質と仕事のパフォーマンスを低下させてしまうので、ストレスを生んでしまう自分の感情を理解し、コントロールできないと健康面だけでなく、家庭、社会生活へのモチベーションが下がり、やる気がなくなり無気力無関心、抜け殻のようになってしまいます。

自分の感情を理解し、コントロールできないことで、自分自身の健康だけでなく、人間関係や目標達成などクオリティ・オブ・ライフに知らず知らずのうちに影響を及ぼしかねないのです。

こうして考えていくと、そうならないためには、メンタルにおける健康をいかに意識し維持していくかがポイントとなると言えます。

次回（１５日）は、感情と行動を振り返り改善していく方法を、認知療法や論理療法（ＲＥＢＴ）を交えながら思考、感情、行動をＡＢＣ分析してみましょう。
